By Tamera, on August 16th, 2008 I have been a little side tracked this week, there is just a lot going on. I have been testing an application and having to do things out of order. Also had to let someone know at the exact moment that I broke anything due to the timing and urgency. This means that my test summary document will be incredibly screwed up. π But I did find something really interesting. Our security department implemented a new auth page to run on Apache Tomcat, that’s really nice of them. It’s called CAS auth. Well funny some moron decided to set the login to only >2 are valid. Nice since about 64 . . . → Read More: it’s saturday
By Tamera, on August 13th, 2008 So there is a flood light, actually a pair at the corner of my house in the back yard. I have been here for 4 years now and have never been able to figure out how to turn it on. Sure I found a random light switch that did nothing but I never figured out this light. New bulbs and everything. GUESS WHAT?! Tonight as I walked into the house the light came on and I was able to turn it off and on with the random switch. Please pray that I don’t burn up in a house fire tonight. π Thanks.
I need to update my blogging software and . . . → Read More: random things
By Tamera, on August 12th, 2008 Last year I started a radical diet. I cut out carbs, not completely but mostly. Before you start to complain or give advice I have to tell you this was at the suggestion of my doctor. How does this tie into pesto? Well I went out for lunch one day to La Scala the Italian restaurant and ordered a sandwich. It came with pesto mayo, so I kindly asked if they could replace that with just pesto. Ah HA! The point is that pesto became my favorite condiment and pizza topping of all time. π So last summer I planted 6 basil plants so that I could experiment with pesto . . . → Read More: all about Pesto
By Tamera, on August 11th, 2008 So Friday when I got home from work it was time to start the assembly and decorating of the glorious cake. But there was a limitation, I needed to get this done, stay clean so I could go to dinner with friends.
Well to start things out I tried to cut my finger tip off. So then I have to wear a rubber glove and get frequent band-aid changes. So at the end of this event I had blood and chocolate all over my shirt.
Here it is coming together. I used a different icing reciepe so I had to make 3 batches. π Good thing that was . . . → Read More: …and the rest of the cake story
By Tamera, on August 7th, 2008 Unless I am lucky enough to have time off or or the project is big enough to require time off I just work cake baking into my normal schedue and routine of things. This is one of the latter. The sad truth of cake baking and decorating is the amount of dirty dishes. So far I have actually washed a sink full or two and placed into the dishwasher what would fit, what is left you might ask?
This was taken early this morning while I was making breakfast for the dogs. What is yet to come? All of the tools from making buttercream frosting, all of the decorating . . . → Read More: The sad truth of cake baking, more of the story about a cake
By Tamera, on August 7th, 2008 The story of a birthday cake.
Well I have this vision of a really tall cake. I don’t know why, maybe it’s because it will be “impressive”. This limits me to 10″ cake pans because I have enough of them to make many layers without washing in between. All had to be washed and dried, they sit for a long time before getting used. But look how pretty they are, I bet they last for the rest of my life.
So we need some ingredients.

Then you need some pan grease to coat the . . . → Read More: Oh what Wednesday night brought for fun.
By Tamera, on August 6th, 2008 Well a week ago tomorrow we took Gwen back for her “7” day check up. They were really impressed with her progress and how well she was doing. She is doing so well that she has become a pretty decent pain in the ass. I realize most of it is the medicine. She is EXTRA hungry! and will damn near do anything to get back in the house at an attempt to find a few extra kibbles left by the rest of the pack. She seems to be dealing well with the restricted activity, she is however moving around a bunch tonight. Today was the first off day for the . . . → Read More: Update on our Gwen
By Tamera, on August 6th, 2008 So I started out working on the cake I need for Carla’s Birthday, good thing I have till Saturday. Well I don’t have enough 8″ round pans and had ruled out the square due to storage and presentation issues. That means I am baking 10″ round cakes, in order to get the cake tall enough I have to get more cake mix. π After already mixing 2 and pouring into pans I run out to the grocery, hey while I am there I will TRY to get some flake salt and course salt for the cookies I am desperate to make. First of all Payless (Kroger) had the cake mix . . . → Read More: Last minute things
By Tamera, on August 5th, 2008 Well apparently I don’t get to do this job any more and the new person isn’t very good at it. So i am going to write out a few tips and pray that they learn something just by sitting “near” the Internet. This discovery has made me very sad as this is one of those things that I am good at.
Requirements must be testable Requirmenets should be concise and clearly written, there should be no question as to what you mean Requirements should include error handling, no really Requirements should include all system functionality including system time outs and validation requirements You should include such items as log . . . → Read More: How to write good requirements
By Tamera, on August 4th, 2008 So today I called in sick hoping to get some extra sun time, HA! God showed me now didn’t he. Guess someone needs to protect me from myself. So I decided to get some things together for dinner and then the sun came out. So here is what we had pork chops, grilled egg plant and squashed potatoes. π
For the pork chops I finely chopped (by hand!) 3 cloves of garlic, 3-4 stems of rosemary and 6 stems of thyme add a dash of salt and pepper and we are ready to roll. I drizzled some olive oil and applied this pasty substance to all sides of the pork . . . → Read More: all about a good dinner
