By Tamera, on June 10th, 2013 Always on and high availability, Enterprise & Standard edition. Well when I think about all of this the first thing that comes to mind is “Can’t we all get along?” That was one of my ex-husband’s favorite sayings, he might have/still does spend a fair amount of time not sober; however that isn’t what is relevant here.
There are changes on our forefront, probably something many of us don’t even know/care/think about until it impacts us. I am guessing; based on the information that I have gathered over the years most shops run on a reactive schedule and very few are running on a proactive plan and this is something . . . → Read More: AlwaysOn & High Availability
By Tamera, on June 3rd, 2013 Well most trips we take end up with me being irritated at Kerry because he’s sitting around on his butt while I am running around like a fool trying to get things ready. We should not assume this time would be any different. I had all my items packed and ready on Saturday leaving me just the cooler and food to pack up on Sunday. Of course he’s discovered a computer issue at home and spends nearly an hour working on it, and it’s still isn’t fixed. (Hopefully I can find someone here to talk about Exchange with.) In that time I got the car completely loaded and ready to . . . → Read More: #MSTECHED Day 1- the drive
By Tamera, on May 31st, 2013 You won’t believe this, heck a few weeks ago either would I. Oh sorry that seems like a set up that might be disappointing once I tell you what I have to say. I am going to TechEd 2013 in New Orleans and will be representing PASS.
I bet you are wondering how this happened? Well apparently someone cancelled and someone else was already going on the company dime. So I was asked if I wanted to go. And well after a few discussions Kerry said “just book it and we have the rest of the year to pay for it”. Now here is where the story gets even stranger . . . → Read More: SAY WHAT? TechEd?!
By Tamera, on May 26th, 2013 Yup Atlanta that is. Last weekend was #SQLSAT220 or #SQLSATATL.
Atlanta is a 4 hour drive from here so we were hopeful in getting their early in the evening. But much like every trip nothing starts out on time (KLT’s fault I am sure) and the drive took a bit longer as we hit crummy traffic. We ate a nice big steak lunch, while I know that seems like a lot the plan was we’d not eat dinner and it is kind of a tradition to eat a steak meal before leaving on a trip if departure time permits. We borrowed my neighbors GIANT vehicle (Infinity QX56), man that is . . . → Read More: and the home of the BRAVES!
By Tamera, on May 24th, 2013 You know it was just the other day that I had a conversation with a friend about tooting your own horn. We discussed how uncomfortable that made us both feel and how we would prefer that we didn’t have to be involved but that it was okay if someone else did the tooting. Hmm that takes on a new meaning if read out of context. In order for some things to in my immediate future to make more sense I need to take a moment, feel uncomfortable and toot my horn.
Not too long ago I accepted a volunteer position with PASS. I will be serving as the Mid Atlantic . . . → Read More: Well I guess I forgot to tell you

I know right? I am so far behind half a dozen post started and none posted. Good intentions never finished. “Someday” that never came. So let me get to the real point of this post so that I can promptly drag you off in left field. WE ARE GOING TO ATLANTA and I AM PRESENTING!! BONUS BONUS! #SQLFAMILY #PASS + Ikea. (DO NOT judge me!)
Okay so here is how the story goes. I submitted and they said no (no worries these things happen). Because we pay for all the SQL travel out of pocket we made the decision that we’d not go to Atlanta if I wasn’t . . . → Read More: I’m Speaking at #SQLSAT220 Atlanta and my crazy list

By Tamera, on November 13th, 2012 By now you should know how this writing challenge works, but in light of all the first timers who attended #summit12 I think I will give you a brief run down. The idea is to help people come up with reasons to write. Sometimes it is just hard to keep in the swing of things. T-SQL Tuesday was developed as a topic for everyone to write about and guess what it’s due on the second Tuesday of the month. This month Chris Yates (@YatesSQL | Blog) has asked us a very personal question “SQL Community / What Does the Community Mean To You?”
For me #sqlcommunity is different from #sqlfamily. . . . → Read More: SQL Community and Family
By Tamera, on November 4th, 2012 This note is coming to you from the EXIT row of a Southwest 737 -700 series bound for SEA. I am not the best flyer(sometimes I need a pill or drink to actually get me on the plane) but I have educated myself and today was a bit of stress for me. Thunderstorm line coming in from the West and leaving late really didn’t help. Did I mention that was my direction of flight? It’s all good at this point as I am in the air and I have paid Southwest air $5 to have internets.
I want to tell you about the NEW Community Zone!!
This year there will . . . → Read More: NEW Community Zone for #summit
